Welcome to Stormy Hall Seeds

Stormy Hall Seeds is a seed company located in North Yorkshire.
It is part of the
Botton Village Camphill Community and the work in our seed workshop involves the growing, processing, testing and distribution of biodynamic vegetable, herb and flower seeds. We do this with the help of a small team of workers, some having special needs.

We are able to offer you a range of more than 250 vegetable, herb and flower varieties. Many are grown and maintained at Stormy Hall Farm, others are grown for us by gardeners and farmers all over Britain. Additionally we co-operate with other Demeter seed-producing companies in Europe in order to meet the demand and to offer a wide range of varieties. As we grow many varieties ourselves over the summer we need time to process and test the seeds. We often only know late in the year what will be available for the next season. Our new catalogue is sent out in early December every year but we try, however, to supply you with seeds all year round.

We grow our seed crops on organic, Demeter-certified land and exclusively offer open-pollinated and pure line varieties as alternatives to hybrid varieties. We reject the use of hybrids because we are convinced that they are not suitable for biodynamic plant growing. They are produced using unsuitable biotechnology techniques, the crops have a lower nutritional value, and it is impossible for gardeners and farmers to save their own seeds from F1 hybrid varieties. We therefore retain and care for well-tried varieties in order to ensure their continued
development and availability. These varieties have been maintained and multiplied on organically-managed land over many years and thus are well adapted to organic growing conditions.
Besides that we offer new varieties that have been bred by biodynamic breeders to meet the needs of biodynamic gardeners and farmers.
By buying and growing biodynamically grown seeds you are supporting the maintenance of the old varieties and the breeding of new open-pollinated varieties as well as contributing to diversity in nature.

We hope that this website will give you the information you need and we welcome your comments and suggestions on our varieties and service. If you have requests for varieties that are not listed in our catalogue please contact us and we will try to help.
